What is CQ?

Cultural intelligence (CQ) is a critical part of setting yourself apart in today’s increasingly diverse society and world. It’s the ability to connect with, relate to and work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds — and CQ goes beyond existing notions of cultural sensitivity and awareness. With the incredible insights from and applications of CQ, you’ll learn how to strategically use cultural differences to come up with more innovative and effective ministry across your church’s mission field.

What is the CQ Assessment?

Most cultural competence assessments focus on teaching information about different cultures. The online CQ assessment takes a different approach, based on more than twenty years of research across over 100 countries. We now know that there are four capabilities that need to be developed on your team and across your congregation in order to relate and build community effectively with people from different backgrounds and who may join you in person or online. The assessment reveals where you are and what can happen next.

What will happen in the “Widen Your Circle” two-session course?

The two-session interactive course will provide detailed learning about CQ, strategies to understand your own results, and then go much further to help you imagine innovative ministry in your own setting that connects with the diversity of your mission field. You’ll also gain perspective to consider whether your church’s current hospitality efforts are adequate to reach and welcome a more diverse audience, and what shifts or enhancements could be important in order to widen your circle.
